Marketing Fundamentals

Marketing has always been difficult to define in a simplistic way, so tends to be widely misunderstood. The definition from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM):

Marketing is the management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably.

Which means in plain terms –  it is about the effective balance between the companies need for profit and the customer’s need for superior value.

Marketing Mix

The ‘Marketing Mix’ is a term used to describe the combination of day-to-day tactics used by a business to achieve its objectives by marketing its products or services effectively to a particular target customer group.

So it really comes down to you offering:

  • What your customers really need and want
  • At just the right price
  • At a time and place they find most convenient
  • Having heard about you in a way that encourages them to buy.

It is also referred to as the ‘4 Cs’ –

  •  Customer Value                            
  •  Cost to the Customer                    
  •  Communication                               
  •  Convenience
